Inspired by Michaelangelo’s David, this charcoal close-up was created as an entry for an exhibit on “Inward/Outward”. I chose to focus on the eyes as a window into the soul and outward toward the world at large. In the case of David Hamelech (King David), his gaze is not trained on the formidable enemy he faces. Rather, he looks on high, to the Master of the Universe for salvation. When I look at this, I can almost see him composing his entreaty for help or songs of praise and gratitude.
